“Crafting ‘Restless’: My Two-Week Challenge in Game Design”

In October 2022, I embarked on a video game project as part of my exam at Sonic College. The game’s parameters were clear: the player had a strict time limit of 90 seconds to move from point A to point B. Additionally, straying from the path would result in damage. With just two weeks to complete the entire production, I created the game titled “Restless.” For the game’s ambiance, I opted for an eerie and horror-themed atmosphere, set in a dark forest during the night. The player assumed the role of a child who awakens on a playground after a terrifying sleepwalk. The objective was to navigate back home through the haunting forest within the allotted time. Throughout the journey, the forest would be haunted by the presence of lost children

The game was developed using Unity, utilizing a preexisting script provided by our instructor. This script served as the foundation on which we built, customizing aspects like character controls, terrain generation, and path width. To enhance the gameplay experience, we integrated sounds using FMOD, acting as an intermediary between Unity and Ableton Live. The creative process involved crafting soundscapes and music in Ableton, which were then integrated into FMOD for mixing and implementation. We introduced dynamic elements by adjusting parameters like distance to the path, distance to the end gate, and time, allowing the audio to adapt in response to various in-game conditions. Achieving the desired audio experience demanded much fine-tuning to ensure that the sounds aligned effectively with different gameplay scenarios
