The Making of Allergi-Valentin

In July 2023, I teamed up again with my buddies, the same crew behind the “Fagus” project. This time, we made up a goofy song about allergies and love and shot a music video for it.

I had the pleasure of yet again collaborating with my friend Adam Nellemann Hansen, with whom I wrote, produced, mixed, and mastered the song. I also had a blast coming up with the music video idea and mapping out the shots. So, even though it was all about having fun and being creative, we still got to try out new things and enjoy the process.

In September 2022 I created the sound installation “Zenkassen” in collaboration with 4 other sound designers. The installation was created in a week. The purpose of the installation was to create an atmospheric room focusing on enhancing the smallest sounds. Through a tactile and interactive experience, the visitors could create a sonic landscape alone or in collaboration with others.

We wanted the visitors to be able to interact with different objects that would feel responsive. We did a quadraphonic speaker setup and panned the sounds based on their location in the room to create a sense of space and direction.

Zenkassen was created using various microphone techniques. Two of the the soundsources was captured with two separate X/Y stereo microphone setups, that would pan the sound in the room based on the placement of the object. The sensitivity of the microphone gain required a lot finetuning with the speaker system, in order to avoid feedback issues. Two wooden boards were mic’ed with homemade contact microphones, to capture even the smallest impulses from touching it. Furthermore we implemented a lighting sensor, that would activate birdsong and forest ambience from the lift of a cup. The installation also had a distance sensor, which manipulated a synth pad based on interaction. The sensors were incorporated with a Arduino Board. All sounds were send to an Ableton Live session, that manipulated every soundsource individually, to achieve a saturated ambient soundscape.
